Project Detail

CJ Design were comissioned to prepare the mechanical and public health design for the development of a new children’s centre built with low energy and sustainable objectives as a priority.
The building is designed to achieve class leading energy efficiency through the implementation of the latest technology in association with high performance thermal insulation and glazing.
Heating to children’s play areas, kitchens, WC’s, shower rooms and stores is provided by wet underfloor heating served by an air source heat pump with a class leading SSER.  Hot water to the site is generated by solar panelsworking in conjunction with the air source heat pump.
The carbon footprint of the building is extremely low and this is reflected in the operating cost which is minimised due to the environmentally consious design.

Results

Delivering a highly sustainble solution within tight financial constraints was a challenging objective but through careful equipment selection and maxmising the use of relatively low cost elements like the thermal insulation meant the succesful delivery of a building which met the Client’s functional and financial needs both in terms of the capital and ongoing operational costs.
