C.J. Design Partnership Limited were involved in the design of  new ‘passive’ store facilities in the South East Block of the Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, London, working in conjunction with Building Design Partnership as architects and Gardiner and Theobald as Project Managers and QS.
The project started in September 2008 and was completed on time and to budget. It included the following services:
A passive store capable of maintaining tight environmental controls with the use of any air conditions; full BMS facility;  full fire and security compliance; all environmental considerations adhered to including Building Regulation L2 & BS5454

Results

‘Faced with the incredible challenges of a performance brief to deliver compliant archiving for the treasured artefacts of both the IWM and those on loan from other Museums, within the constrained revenue and operational budgets of the IWM solving these by passive measures required an extensive coordination with the client, archivists and liaison with a host of field experts from museums and universities throughout Europe. Successfully delivered it continues to maintain stringent environmental conditions without significant energy consumption.’ – Colin Hoare
